IBM Model M 122 Battleship

So I got a Battleship.

The biggest keyboard in my collection an absolute behemoth that makes a regular Model M look like children toy.

When it got to me, it was dirty. Like really dirty.

And so many of the plastic rivets were broken that they were just falling off the keyboard.

So right away i knew that I would need to bolt mod it.
But first taking it a part.
I prepared the table and took all the keys. It was gross AF.

I even removed the blue stabilizer "rails" with two cotton swabs.

Then I need to remove the 5.5mm screws and I realized my 5.5 socket was not in my home, so I had to improvise.

image

Who knew, a 6mm socket with a piece of TP works like a charm.

And it was fucking disgusting.

Like i believe this could support a life form for a few months.

The PCB was protected by a metal sheet working as a Faraday cage

So many rivets were just falling to the table.

After the barrel plate was detached from the case I started breaking the brittle rivets and cutting the tough ones with a scalpel
